Dresser Dress Up

Hello!  Long time no post, eh?

Here is a "before picture of my dresser... Notice the large cat acting silly in the front of the picture... That's my kitty.  If he knew I was posting this picture, I am sure he would make me take it down.  He has much cuter poses.

So the dresser in question is the college garage sale find that hasn't seem to have been replaced yet.  I picked up a free project idea card from a craft store that had upholstered drawers and it was so cute!  I decided it was the perfect non-heirloom piece to try it out on, and found the fabric in a clearance section when it was half off the reduced price... Score!  I think it turned out pretty well, wouldn't you say?
So there you have it.  A redone, bargain shopped, garage sale find!

I can't believe it's a new post!

Hello All!

So things have gotten a little crazy around here lately, with my husband and I buying a house to flip, working on it, still working working, and spending some time with some awesome friends getting away for a bit to celebrate a special little girl turning one!

Which brings me to my post, as this was my guilty please working on it when my husband was hard working on our flip.  This book was inspired by a friend looking for the perfect brag book for a special little guy in her life.  We got this idea when out shopping, and here's the end result:  A beautiful "Emily" book!

These are just a few samples of what the pages look like.  Each one is done in coordinating papers, each letter in a different color scheme, with matching pictures and embellishments.  The pages are then tied up with ribbons and given with love.  Enjoy!

A poker party dip!

I was recently invited to a ladies poker night.  Thank goodness the dip was better than my playing skills!  I upped the ante by including taco seasoning in the re-fried bean layer, raised the bet by layering on black beans, avocado, corn, sour cream, and cheese.  It was a full house with sliced olives and tomatoes on top that were as big a hit as a royal flush!

Quick Baby Blanket

I have a special little girl that I like to spoil from time to time, and a perfect way to do so included this quick and cute, single crochet baby blanket.  It has tons of stretch in it, which I exaggerated by adding tassels to the corners... So cute!

Ready for March? I am!

I am going to try and make 2011 my best year yet for crafting.  This includes my lucky clover door decoration that just got hung on the front door.  It started as a cut piece of plywood (thanks hubby Dan!) and the edges got a coat of shamrock green paint.  Then, a few different patterns of paper got modge podged onto the front, the edges got trimmed and it was time to embellish.  This one features beads on the the wire, a green silk carnation, a small ribbon bow, and a few buttons.  The finishing touch included gold glitter glue close to the edge of the front.  I can't wait to see it in the daylight tomorrow out on the front door!

More yarn fun

These are a first attempt at knitting.  It really is a challenge to learn how to knit after crocheting for so long, but I guess I can hold my own on basic things.  These are little hand cuffs, fingerless, but with a thumb hole.  The nice part about this project was that it went quick and I didn't have to do it in the round.  I will be attempting a hat that matches, we will see how that goes!

After a long time away...

A new post!!

I have been busy lately playing with different crafts, and have re-fallen in love with crocheting.  This is an ear warmer that I made complete with custom crochet flower and button embellishments.  I sure hope the runner in the family likes it once she gets it next weekend!

Wedding Album Pictures

Hello Everyone!

I recently finished the pages for my 18" x 18" wedding album and posted the pictures to my Scrapbook.com gallery.  You can enjoy them by clicking  here.  This picture is of the cover of the album.  I covered the original book with fabric, and then embellished it with feathers, beads, and my favorite flower, a gerbera daisy.  Enjoy!

Time to CREATE!

So one of my newest friends shares the creative spirit with me and I was more than happy to assist her in trying to be creative when I realized that we all need some inspiration from time to time.  I decided to gift her something I had made for Christmas, I just had to come up with what it would be.  I found a picture of some "springy" letters, and decided to make my own.  The word create kept coming to mind, so I used that and painted the letters first.  Then I embellished each one with a different material, and worked on bending some wire for the springs.  I enlisted the help of my husband and he cut the block for mounting and helped me decide what glue to use for the spring joints.  We settled on a two part epoxy and the result turned out amazing.  The only thing I am more proud of than the final outcome is the place it now resides.... :-)

Spring Wreath

Hello All...

Boy is this a cold winter in Minnesota... To spread a little "light at the end of the tunnel" cheer, here is a pic of my front door spring wreath.  I love gerbera daisies and thought the bird was too cute to not include.  The wreath is a wire form with a greenery bush that I separated out and attached, then with lots of gerbera daisies and the bird glued in.  I can't wait till it's seasonally appropriate to put it out!
